Efforts Rewarded, the Holiday Bell Rang

At IELEV High School, the first semester of the 2025–2026 academic year was successfully completed with intensive and productive academic work, alongside social and cultural activities. As a reward for their efforts throughout the term, our students received their report cards and began their midterm holiday. The school administration and teachers wished all students a pleasant holiday and expressed their hope to reunite in the second semester with the same motivation and enthusiasm. IELEV High School will resume second-semester educational activities on February 2, 2026, continuing right where it left off.

“Sensitivity”-Themed Literature Symposium Held

An in-school symposium themed “Sensitivity” was organized for the preparatory classes on Wednesday, January 14, by the İELEV High School Literature Culture Symposium Club. Through analyses of selected literary works, the symposium aimed to develop students’ critical thinking skills as well as their ability to read with empathy. During the creative workshop segment of the symposium, students produced original works inspired by the texts they had examined. The program concluded with a ceremony in which participating students were presented with certificates. We would like to thank all the students and teachers who contributed to the planning and implementation of this in-school symposium, and we congratulate our preparatory classes for their interest and active participation.

Addiction: The Reward Mechanism and Its Functioning

As part of the preventive guidance activities carried out by the Psychological Counseling and Guidance Department of IELEV High School, a seminar titled “Addiction: The Reward Mechanism and Its Functioning” was delivered by Specialist Psychologist Can Gezgör to support our students in making healthy choices throughout their lives and raising their awareness. The seminar was organized in two separate sessions: one for preparatory and 9th-grade students, and another for 10th- and 11th-grade students. The event addressed topics such as the biological foundations of addiction, brain development during adolescence, the brain’s relationship with addiction, risk factors, and ways to set healthy boundaries. Conducted in an interactive environment with the active participation of our students, the seminar concluded with thought-provoking and awareness-raising discussions.

Proud Achievement at the Jugend Musiziert Competition

Five students from our high school participated in the 63rd Jugend Musiziert Competition this year. After the announcement of the results, the achievements of our students brought great joy and pride to our school. In the piano category, Preparatory Class B student Fahri Kerem Bilgiç and 9A Class student İrem Arık were awarded first place and earned the right to go to Rome. In the same competition, Zehra Karaoğlu, a student from Class 10D, won second place. In the guitar category, 9A Class students Aren Çuhan and Ege Dursun also achieved first place, marking a significant success. This international-level achievement by our students has been a great source of pride for our school. We congratulate all our students and wish them continued success in their artistic endeavors.

District Championship at the Çekmeköy Inter-School Chess Tournament

As part of the 2025–2026 academic year, the Inter-School Chess Tournament organized through the cooperation of the Çekmeköy District Directorate of Youth and Sports and the Istanbul–Çekmeköy Provincial Chess Representation was held between 6–8 January 2026, hosted by Yediiklim Schools. The tournament consisted of team matches played according to the Swiss System and the Berger System. Each player was allotted a main time of 15 minutes with a 5-second increment per move. The competitions were conducted in accordance with FIDE Chess Rules and the competition regulations of the Turkish Chess Federation. Students born between 2007 and 2019 from schools affiliated with the Çekmeköy District Directorate of National Education, and holding School Sports licenses, participated in the tournament. Teams competed across four boards. Throughout the tournament, pairings and results were announced on official notice boards and on the Turkish Chess Federation’s website. Competing in the youth category as İELEV High School, our school team consisting of 9th-grade student Berkay Yoğun and 10th-grade students Alper Kocatepe, Deniz Güney Göçer, and Mehmet Tavukçu won all of their matches under the guidance of our supervising teachers, Yavuz Sidal and Kübra Atbakan, and achieved the distinction of becoming Çekmeköy District Champions. We congratulate our students and supervising teachers on this significant achievement and wish them continued success in their chess endeavors.

Informational Meeting About The IB Process Was Held At İELEV High School For The Parents Of Our 12th-Grade Students

On January 7, 2026, an informational meeting about the IB process was held at İELEV High School for the parents of our 12th-grade students. During the meeting, our Vice Principal, Defne Döş, and our IB Coordinator, Doruk Karabulut, presented an overview of how the IB program operates. Following this, our Overseas Education Consultant , Betül Sakınır, and the Head of the Guidance and Psychological Counseling Department, Barış Demirci, shared with parents the key points that students should pay attention to throughout the process and provided information by giving examples from the work carried out to date.

10th Grade Visual Arts Students at SALT Beyoğlu

As part of their course, the 10th grade visual arts students of İELEV High School visited SALT Beyoğlu. During the visit, they explored the exhibition titled “We’ve Been on the Carpet Since the ’90s.” Throughout the visit, students evaluated the exhibition’s themes, the techniques employed, and various modes of artistic expression. By examining examples of contemporary art on site, they observed diverse approaches to expression and broadened their perspectives on art. This educational and inspiring visit contributed to the development of students’ artistic viewpoints and strengthened their visual literacy skills.

The 1st Döner Day Event, Organized Within The Scope of IELEV High School’s Alumni Network Initiatives

The 1st Döner Day event, organized within the scope of IELEV High School’s Alumni Network initiatives, brought our graduates back together under the school roof, creating a strong sense of belonging and a warm environment of sharing. With the growing number of graduates since 2019, the IELEV High School alumni community has expanded each year and came together at this meaningful event with the participation of our teachers and the Parent-Teacher Association. During the event, the unifying power of döner, a common element of daily life in both Türkiye and Germany, was highlighted. This shared flavor, which facilitated conversation and interaction, enabled graduates from different graduating years to reconnect. Alumni gathering at the school once again, refreshing old memories, and forming new connections were among the most valuable outcomes of the event. As part of the program, the band “Punch!”, composed of our 2019 and 2021 graduates, took the stage and added a special touch of energy and dynamism to the event with their performance. We would like to thank the Alumni Association, foremost among those who contributed to the organization, as well as all stakeholders who supported the event and our graduates who participated with great interest. We hope that the Döner Day event will become a tradition and continue in the coming years.

“Expressing My Emotions Through Art” Exhibition Opened at IELEV High School

Inspired by the tradition in Turkish literature of writing poems beneath paintings, an interdisciplinary project was carried out at IELEV High School. Within the scope of the project, which was brought to life through the collaboration of the Turkish Language and Literature and Visual Arts departments, 9th-grade students wrote poems inspired by photographs taken by members of the Photography Club. At the end of this now-traditional project, the opening of an exhibition showcasing the students’ creative works was held on December 30. The exhibition, titled “Expressing My Emotions Through Art,” was presented to visitors on the first floor of IELEV High School. Through this project, which brings together two different disciplines, the aim is to develop students’ artistic perspectives and creativity.

“Words with Wings” Project Exhibition Opened

At İELEV High School, the project exhibition titled “Kanatlı Kelimeler – Words with Wings”, prepared in collaboration between the 9th-grade departments, was presented to visitors with an opening ceremony. As part of the project, students visualized English idioms through creative posters and displayed them together with their German equivalents. This project, brought to life through the joint efforts of the 9th-grade departments, not only demonstrated how different languages express similar concepts in different ways but also highlighted the students’ creativity.

İELEV High School Teachers Took Part in the 18th IB Day

Teachers from İELEV High School attended the 18th IB Day, organized by Eyüboğlu Educational Institutions on December 6, 2025. The event, which brought together schools in Türkiye implementing the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme, provided an opportunity for educators from various branches to share their experiences. As part of the event, İELEV CAS Coordinators Berna Atlanç and Alper Korkmaz delivered a presentation titled “CAS Coordination as a Pedagogical Leader.” The presentation, which received great interest from participants, focused on the importance of pedagogical leadership in the CAS process. IB teachers and administrators from different departments of our school also participated in four separate sessions held throughout the event, gaining insight into recent developments and curriculum updates within the IB programme. We extend our thanks to all our teachers who contributed to and participated in the event.

“Atatürk and Science” Themed Ankara Trip from IELEV High School

The Ankara trip themed “Atatürk and Science,” organized through the collaboration of the Social Sciences Department and the Physics Department of IELEV High School, offered students the opportunity to experience history and science together. As part of the trip, students visited Anıtkabir, the 1st and 2nd Turkish Grand National Assembly buildings, the Ethnography Museum, Feza Gürsey Science Center, the MKEK Industry and Technology Museum, and Middle East Technical University. Through this program, students had the chance to observe firsthand the importance Mustafa Kemal Atatürk placed on science, modernization, and progress. The educational and inspiring trip contributed to the development of students’ historical awareness as well as their scientific perspectives. Appreciation was expressed to the teachers who contributed to the organization and to the students who participated with great interest.

Turkish Language and Literature Department Shared AI Applications at ETP2025

On Saturday, November 29th, our teachers attended the ETP2025 event organized by the Private Schools Association of Turkey at Yeditepe University with the theme of “Changing Concepts, New Dynamics,” and the IELEV Private High School Turkish Language and Literature Department also made a presentation. Our department teacher Ayşe Seferoğlu, presented session titled “Character Analysis with AI: The Case of ‘Canlı Maymun Lokantası’” to the attendees. The presentation explored the applicability of AI tools in IBDP Turkish A courses, and student projects created using these applications were also showcased. The presentation, closely followed with interest by participants, was both productive and enjoyable.

İELEV Debate Club Wins the Oxford Prestige Debate Tournament

The İELEV Debate Club achieved first place at the Oxford Prestige Debate Piloting Phase tournament, organized by Oxford University Press on November 29–30 at Acıbadem University. Representing our school as debaters, our students Ekin Topsakal and İdil Rengin Tekin impressed audiences with their outstanding performance throughout the tournament. Standing out among 26 distinguished schools from across Türkiye, our students earned the championship plaque with their success in the final round. We sincerely congratulate the İELEV Debate Club students on this proud achievement.

Taking a Stand Against Information Pollution - Academic Integrity Week at İELEV

As the Library of İELEV High School, we celebrated this year’s Academic Integrity Week with the theme “Information Pollution and Academic Integrity,” organizing a variety of engaging activities. During this special week, aimed at highlighting the importance of accessing reliable information in the digital age, we carried out initiatives designed to raise our students’ awareness. Throughout the week, in the Infographic Poster Competition, our students explored the topics of misinformation and digital responsibility through creative designs. The selected posters were displayed around the school, contributing to the cultivation of social awareness. In a debate competition held with 10th-grade students, the question “Should artificial intelligence be banned in schools?” was discussed, and students delivered impressive performances with strong arguments. In the closing talk at the end of the week, Verushka Wagner emphasized the individual and societal importance of ethical behavior in digital environments with her presentation titled “Academic Integrity and Responsibility in the Digital World.” We extend our gratitude to all the students and teachers who contributed to this meaningful week, reminding us of the fundamental role of academic integrity in our educational lives.

Teachers’ Day Celebrated with Enthusiasm at İELEV Private High School

Teachers’ Day at İELEV High School was celebrated in a joyful atmosphere with the participation of students and parents. The student council expressed their love and gratitude to their teachers through a special program and documentary they prepared. Our Foundation and The Parent-Teacher Association brightened the day with various surprises they prepared for our teachers. Ali Erkoç, Branch Manager of Private Educational Institutions at the Çekmeköy District Directorate of National Education, also attended the celebration. In his speech, Erkoç emphasized the importance of teaching and shared heartfelt messages. The event came to a meaningful close with applause and words of thanks from the teachers.

Şirince Mathematics Village Trip

IELEV High School students participated in a four-day educational trip to Şirince Mathematics Village, organized by the Mathematics Department, from November 20–23, 2025. As part of the trip, our preparatory class students had the opportunity to attend seminars by Prof. Dr. Ali Nesin on advanced mathematical topics, including the Hamilton problem, perfect shuttle, and the fundamentals of proof logic. Within the program, our students also visited the ancient city of Ephesus and the Thales Museum, enhancing their historical and cultural knowledge while gaining the chance to approach science from different perspectives. We would like to thank our Mathematics Teacher, Şevket Karabacak, and Information Technology Teacher, Duygu Aslan, for their guidance and contributions to this productive and educational trip.

A Meaningful Run by İELEV Runners Club Students on Teachers’ Day

On Sunday, November 23, 2025, at 08:30 in the morning, students from the İELEV Runners Club of İELEV High School began their day with warm-up exercises and took part in the Teachers’ Day Run, held with a large turnout at Yeşilköy Marina and hosted by the Bakırköy Municipality. The event, which also saw great interest from teachers, featured 10K, 5K, and children’s races, with a total of 2,800 athletes participating. The students added meaning to the event by running to honor the teachers who prepare them for a bright future. İELEV High School CAS Coordinators Alper Korkmaz (10K) and Berna Atlanç (5K) also joined the run to support their students. İELEV Runners Club students expressed their pride and happiness in taking part in this special event that highlights the value of teachers in society and in running alongside their teachers.
