Global Climate Crisis

At IELEV, we aim to be open-minded, principled and creative thinkers. That’s why we decided to create a piece of art for the Call to Earth Day, reflective of our passion for the fight against climate change. As former US President Barack Obama once said, “No challenge poses a greater threat to future generations than climate change”. We have taken this to heart and symbolized the devastation caused by climate change by painting one of our school walls with a polar bear, a species amongst Earth’s most majestic mammals and one whose habitat is being destroyed by humanity’s reckless actions.

We have met every Tuesday and Wednesday to work on this project. We came up with the idea for the painting and it was all hands on from there. After the sketching was finished, we got out our brushes and got to painting. A common misconception is that polar bears have white fur when in reality the fur on them is clear. Some of the light that hits the polar bear gets trapped and creates the snow white fur everyone associates with them. With this fact in mind, we wanted to experiment with the color of the polar bear. We used multiple tones of contrasting colors to signify the disturbance in nature that climate change causes.

You can see the finished project on the ground floor of our school.
