What’s a GIB Programme?

Year 11 and 12 students at ielev study for the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) – at ielev that is the GİB (Gemischtsprachiges Internationales Baccalaureate) which is a special form of the IB based on the agreement of the German Central Office for German Schools Abroad (ZfA) with the IBO (International Baccalaureate Organisation).

IB regulations apply in GİB: there are six subjects (3 SL, 3 HL) with a number of compulsory subjects (C) and three core compulsory IB components plus some subject options (O):

(C) Theory of Knowledge: TOK
(C) Creativity, Activity, Service: CAS
(C) Extended Essay: EE

(C) Language A (mother tongue) Turkish (SL/ HL)
(C) Language B (acquisition) German HL
(O) Language B (acquisition) English SL/ HL

(C) Science Biology in German SL/HL
(O) Science Chemistry in English (SL)
(O) Science Physics in English (SL)

(C) Mathematics in English) (SL/HL)
(C) Individuals and Society: History in German (SL)

GİB students can enter university if they fulfill the following requirements:

  • they have scored at least 4 points in all of their six subjects in the final Diploma Exam
  • if they score one subject with three points only they need another subject at the same level with at least 5 points and a total of at least 24 points out of the maximum of 45 points in the final GİB Diploma

University applications to German universities fall under the agreement of the German Central Office for German Schools Abroad (ZfA) with the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).
